The St. Nina's Orphanage and Mission Center, located in Gacorone-Marimanti, Tharaka Nithi County of Kenya, serves as a beacon of hope during these unprecedented times for the local people of the Diocese of Nyeri and Mt. Kenya.
Recently established in June of 2020 by His Grace Bishop Neofitos, along with mission priest and director Fr. Makarios Chipalila Mulenga, the St. Nina’s Center addresses the spiritual needs and great poverty that affects many who live in the acutely arid region. Such needs consist of local Orthodox pastoral care through catechism, a healthy Church life, care for the orphaned, opportunity to empower women through trade development, and most importantly, access to clean drinking water and food.
Meals being served during the weekly program.
Currently, local food insecurity is the leading hardship that the Center is facing. Every week 150 children, ages 2-18, as well as 50 to 75 men and women come to receive a meal. Some are orphaned, some come with their families, and others travel far distances. Everyone is welcomed! As one elderly man shared, "If this is how God reveals himself, then we have seen him today."
The goal to continue feeding the souls and bodies of all who come is critical. To help maintain and improve this current program, the budget is $13,200 for the year. All proceeds cover food, water, PPE, and other expenses.
Please prayerfully consider making a gift. Help be a witness to the children, their families, and the people of Kenya who are seeking Christ as we move forward together in faith during this new year!
Through the intercessions of St. Nina Equal to the Apostles, may God bless this ministry!

The St. Nina Orphanage and Mission Center was made possible thanks to a generous donation of land from a local elder. Through the blessings and support of His Grace Bishop Neofitos of the Diocese of Nyeri and Mt. Kenya and Fr. Makarios, the Center strives to meet the spiritual, social, and physical needs of the local people of the region. St. Nina operates under the omophorion of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa.
The greater vision and five-year goal is to build and establish dormitory community housing for the orphans, a local Orthodox health clinic, and a local primary school. The Diocese is currently laying the groundwork to accomplish all of these goals with your support.
