fr. demetrios andrews

preparing to serve as a Mission specialist in the liturgical translation program

Fr. Demetrios Andrews

Fr. Demetrios is preparing to work as a Mission Translation Specialist in the OCMC Liturgical Translation Program, which provides tools, training, and consultation to overseas mother-tongue translators of liturgical texts.

In the Great Commission (Matthew 28.16-20), Christ commands us to make disciples of all nations (ethnic groups), implying the need for translations into each language. Throughout history, the Orthodox Church has prioritized translation of both the Bible and Liturgical texts into the mother-tongue of the faithful. In fact, His Eminence, Archbishop Makarios of Kenya has said, "Without translation, there cannot be mission."

Fr. Demetrios will be creating a handbook for translators for the services of baptism and chrismation along with other exegetical tools for liturgical translators. He will also provide training in the use of OCMC liturgical software such as OLW (https://olw.ocmc.org) and Doxa (https://liml.org) and develop templates used by Doxa to generate multilingual liturgical books.

Fr. Demetrios received his Masters of Theology in Pastoral Care from the University of Balamand, Lebanon, and is completing his PhD in Theology with an emphasis in Theology, Philosophy, and Cultural Theory from the Joint Doctoral Program of the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology, from which he received his M.Div equivalent. Fr. Demetrios is a Board Certified Chaplain under the Association of Certified Christian Chaplains (ACCC) and has 8 units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
