MISSIONARY SERVING AT Project Mexico
Sophia had her first taste of mission work when she went to Project Mexico as a volunteer in 2021. The experience imprinted so deeply on her heart that she decided to go back the following summer to be a part of the homebuilding internship program.
This turned out to be an incredibly life-changing experience, and her faith and love for Christ, His Church, and His people, deepened greatly.
After that summer, Sophia knew she wanted to be involved in the work of Project Mexico and St. Innocent Orphanage long-term, so she went back again in the summer of 2023 as a homebuilding intern and then officially moved to Project Mexico in January of 2024 to work at the new baby orphanage, Casa Cuna San Felipe.
She worked there, caring for the young babies and assisting in the start-up of the Casa Cuna for the first 5 months of her time.
In June of 2024, Sophia transitioned into the position of Religious Education Coordinator, serving the parishioners of St. Innocent Orthodox Mission Church and the boys of St. Innocent Orphanage.
She is currently taking Spanish classes locally to further her language abilities and enable her to do her job gracefully and to the glory of God.
Sophia is excited to take part in the beautiful, shared labor of bringing catechism classes and spiritual retreats to the kids, and to serve the Church in other capacities!
